motion10 and 2AT build tourist website for the Dutch Province of Utrecht
Interactive site filled with tourist information, developed on the basis of Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services
Capelle a/d IJssel, the Netherlands, April xx, 2009 – Microsoft Gold Partners motion10 and 2AT have built a new tourist website for UTR, the Association of VVV Tourist Information Offices in the Province of Utrecht. What makes the site – www.utrechtyourway.nl – so special is that it presents information dynamically and enables visitors to find what they want, quickly and easily. It was built by motion10 and 2AT on the basis of Microsoft SharePoint Team Services. The content comes from various back-end systems via Web services.
All that visitors to the UTR website need do in order to get fast and easy access to the tourist information they want is choose from a range of themes such as “Romance,” “Fantasy,” “Adventure,” etc. They are then presented with an up-to-date overview of everything that Utrecht has to offer within the theme.
Lisanne van IJzendoorn, Internet Coordinator at UTR: “Our former website was based on an obscure separation of the province into regions, which meant very little to the visitors. The aim of the new site was to provide relevant, up-to-date and inspiring information on the basis of the visitor’s tastes and preferences – demand-driven rather than supply-driven. What do you fancy doing today? That sort of thing. The new site is meeting these demands perfectly. We’ve had some very positive responses both from the visitors and from the partners who feature on the site. The specialists at motion10 and 2AT have built a smart system for random presentation of information on the partners. It enables them to choose the theme they want to fall under.”
Windows SharePoint
motion10 and 2AT used Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services as the site’s content management platform, and a
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) to create customized XML links to various back-end databases. Because of this approach
the site always presents up-to-date content without the need of adapting or adding information manually. A switch to
the more comprehensive Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 platform is planned for the near future. This will
substantially increase the web content management (WCM) features and enable UTR’s employees to add or edit content more
easily using a browser.
